Privacy policy

We at The Christian Science Monitor respect
and protect the privacy of our users.

What information do we collect from our users and how do we collect it?

The Christian Science Monitor collects only the personal information that is required for making a purchase through its Treeless Edition website.

We collect information at several points on the site. For example, we collect or request information when a user:

• Places an order
• Downloads a free copy
• Submits an e-mail

We do not provide, sell or lease personally identifiable information to any third parties.

Security

We take strong precautions to protect user information both online and off-line.

Credit card information is encrypted and protected using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption software. This software encrypts your private information so that it cannot be read by anyone as it travels over the Internet. Data is stored on a server that is separate from the website server and protected by a firewall.

We store your credit card information so we can charge your account each month.

What are cookies? How do you use them?

"Cookies" are small text files placed in your computer's browser. They are used to provide data about how people use the site, so we can compile statistics. For Treeless Edition readers, cookies enable us to recognize your computer when you come to the download pages, so you don't have to fill in the blanks every time.

Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies. If you prefer, you can set your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent. If you do not accept cookies, you will need to re-enter all of your user information each time you come to the site, and you will not be able to access the archives.

Cookies cannot be used to collect data from any user's computer — cookies can only be used in conjunction with the site being visited. See http://www.builder.com/Programming/Cookies/ss01.html for more information about cookies.

If you click on a link in an advertisement in the Treeless Edition, you also may get cookies from the advertiser. The Christian Science Monitor does not control those cookies and those cookies are not subject to this policy. Please note that the use of advertising cookies set by third-party servers is common in the Internet industry.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding what is done with your information on any part of The Christian Science Monitor's website, please e-mail us at treelessservice@csmonitor.com.
